If you’re thinking about creating a website then you’re going to need somewhere to put your webpages and that’s what a web host is for. Web hosts come in all shapes and sizes but start off very cheap (around $4 per month). There are free hosts available but they usually force ads onto your site and are usually likely to go down at any time, if you want something reliable with proper support then it’s always worth paying for it.

Once you decide to bite the bullet and get a hosting package you will have to decide upon a single domain plan or an unlimited domain plan. The difference is obvious, an unlimited domain plan will mean you can host as many websites as you like on it, a single domain plan on the other hand means you’re stuck with just the one site.

You might be thinking right now that you only want one website and a single domain plan will be fine. Well, in my experience it is easy to want to expand, once you make one website and realise how easy it was you might come up with a great idea for another site, but where are you going to host that? Well with an unlimited domain plan you would have that freedom and flexibility.

What you may also find with single domain plans is that they are capped on bandwidth and space. Now, this isn’t true for all hosts, in fact Hostgator offer unlimited space and bandwidth on all their plans, but not all hosts are the same.

At the end of the day it all comes down to flexibility and freedom. An unlimited domain plan will give the options in the future if you want to add extra domains to it. Also, with Hostgator there is only a couple of dollars difference between the plans.
